Susans Needlearts has moved

Well I finally retired from the school district after fourteen years at North Shore Elementary. I sure miss all those children. But I'm on to new and better things in my life. Such as devoting full time to my shop Susan's NeedleArts.
Susan's Needlearts has moved and expanded. My shop is located in the Stater Brothers Shopping Center in Big Bear Lake. After five years I have finally expanded to a 900 square foot store in the Stater Brothers Center on Big Bear Blvd. I will be adding new merchandise and still keeping the reliable manufacturers that you all know. Susan's NeedleArts will be offering classes free with purchase and offering on going help as needed. Everyone is welcome to stop in anytime with questions or just sit and work on your projects. I couldn't believe how hard and time consuming moving and opening could be. But it's finally done new paint new carpet and new merchandise.

Ribbon Embroidery Class

I'll be hosting another a ribbon embroidery class. I'll post the times next week
The class will be a 2 hour class each week. We will learn two new stitches in the class. I hosted a class in July, it was a hit . We all had fun and learned new stitches. This time in the class you will learn enough to do a sampler in the end. To see the sampler stop into the shop anytime. Hopefully I will have it done soon.

I guess I don't get to update my blog much these days.
Gena and I just returned from the TNNA show in Long Beach last week.
It was four days of classes and seeing new products.I ordered a new embroidery floss.
It's made from Egyptian cotton. I have worked this Sullivans, you can use a longer length without
it knotting or tangling on the back of your work.
Hopefully it will be here soon. I know that I'm not the only one who ordered at the show.
Also I purchased the new DMC memory floss and have worked with this product. You can form it around shapes on your cross stitch or needlepoint. It gives a nice finished edge, that stands out. I have 18 colors. So come into the shop to see these new products. I also order new stitch and zip kits. Stitch and Zip had some new ways to finish these. The larger clutch and the small credit card kits were finished up as Mommy and Me projects, they were so cute. I'll try and do a sample for you to see.

New shop project

I have been in the process of designing a bargello beaded handbag. It has been quite a job. The back is a mirror image of each side with a line of stitches going down the middle. It took four days to get it right, but the center line was off. Now I'm taking out four days work and starting half of the back over. I'll post some pictures of the work in progress. This is the front, It's almost done I have just a small bit on each side for the gussets.

Here's a shot of the back. The left side was the one I had to take out. Hopefully it won't take to long to restitch.
I'll post pictures as I progress.

Bookmarks for Literacy

I'm hosting a bookmark for literacy campaign. Everyone is welcome to come down to the shop all this month and help stitch a bookmark for children' s book week in May. I will be donating all of the bookmarks to our local library at the end of April. I will also be hosting a bookmark class at the library sometime in April, towards the end of the month.

Customer Projects

Michelle just finished this cross stitch Christmas stocking
She put a lot of hours into this one. It turned out looking GREAT
I can't wait to see her next finished project. She is working on a cross stitch wolf picture. Let's all give Michelle a hand for a project well done.

Monica just finished this charted needlepoint.
She used a mixture of over dyed floss and metallic threads. She also used brown paper packages silk and ivory. This project was done on 18ct white mono canvas. Great job Monica. We just picked colors for a pattern called winter pines. Both are from Nancy's Needle.

Finished shop project.

This is a black work pattern that I have in the shop. Black work is challenging,but fun. If you do any kind of cross stitch, you can do black work.
When I finished this first project I was quite excited. It took me about 2 months to complete, but it was a rewarding project.
